MDS 9396S airflow upgrade

Hi,

I have to upgrade 6 x 9396S with the port-side intake air flow. These switches are in production and i can't do a power off.

I received the bi directional PSU and the Fan tray port-side intake. Now i have to replace the port-side exhaust PSU and FAN with the new one.

I read this doc  : http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/storage-networking/mds-9396s-16g-multilayer-fabric-switch/overview-c17-737490.pdf.

I can change the PSU without any issue. But the question is about the fan tray.

When i replace the first fan tray i will be in a "unsupported configuration", but it seems i have until 10 mn (if the temp. doesn't raise too fast) to replace the second fan tray and come back to a supported configuration.

Does anybody already did this operation ?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Christian,

I replaced first both power DS-CAC-1200W-E= with DS-CAC-1200W= ; the 9396s accepts working with both PS installed at the same time. Then I replaced one fan DS-C96S-FAN-E with a DS-C96S-FAN-I, and removed immediately the other DS-C96S-FAN-E, replaced it with a DS-C96S-FAN-I.

You just need to have bidirectionnal PS if you want to change the fan type.

I had to do the work backward, because I didn't have the wright power cord; on DS-CAC-1200W-E=, the connector is an IEC-C14, but on the DS-CAC-1200W=, I don't know the name: here is a photo: https://servimg.com/view/14997875/1380

I need Schuko power cords, but I had only C13; just for testing, I used C14-Schuko added to those I received.
