NPV & NPIV

I need to enable NPIV for our new VMware environment, do I need to enable NPV as well? We only have two switches (9509) in each fabric running 3.3(1c). I know that NPIV is non-distributive and NPV is distributive.

Thanks

if you are using blade servers for vmware (from HP which I know about), each blade chasis can come with multiple cisco switch in interconnect bays.

all blade server in the chasis will connect to SAN via these switches. you can configure these switches as independent physical switches and extend your fabric as if you expand a fabic with multiple switches. OR you can configure the switches in NPV mode and reduce configuration overheads

are you trying configure blade interconnect modules for your fabric? in that case you just need to enable

npiv on core switches and npv on blade switches

Yes, we are trying to configure the blade interconnect. We only have core switches, one in each location on each fabric.

What are the blade switches? Do you mean the Line Cards in the MDS switch?

Thanks
