<< Original question by Ivy Yang. Moving from document section to discussion>>
hi, guys
I am a newbie of Cisco MDS.
we have several MDS9513, 9148.................
now I want to automate the health check for these switches.....the check items include both hardware status, if have error messages.........
I don't want to script about it since I think script is not flexible enough and time-consuming.
I want to use SNMP way.
so my question is that:
1) where is the MIB file on MDS?
2) the MIB file depends the MDS module or the NX-OS version?
Hope I am on the right track........

you are off the track a little
Why don't use Device Manager and Fabric Manager to monitor the health of the system. It is just point and click
DM and FM will do it all for you

hi, Vu
thanks for your reply!
1) where can I download the installation files for DM and FM? I tried to download fromhttp://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282731430&flowid=18002&softwareid=282762464&release=4.2(9)&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest only to find that it is not what I want.........
2) the reason I want SNMP is that we want to integrate the MDS monitoring to our exsiting Groundwork system..........but you are right , DM and FM are good!

Ah, all are 5.2(6a)..
I see. I need to doubleclick "start.html" and install it as per the wizard.
please ignore my question about FM. I undestand now I downloaded the right files and know how to install it. but unluckily I want to install it on 64bit windows7 which is not supported by FM so far.
As for MIB, there are many files under
ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/oid/ and ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/v2/
I am not sure which ones are the correct for MDS 9513/9148? Thank you

I thought Fabric Manager was depricated. They want people to use DCNM now (which I'm running on 64Bit Windows 2008 so I'm guessing the client will work in Windows 7.)
As far as which mib works for MDS switches there is a lot of overlap with MDS and the other Cisco (Nexus etc) gear. They all have the same basic layout mib-wise.
The mibs I use for finding OID's to monitor my MDS switches via Zabbix are mostly (but not limited to)
CISCO-FC-DEVICE-ALIAS-MIB.my
CISCO-FC-FE-MIB.my
CISCO-FC-MGMT-MIB.my
CISCO-IF-EXTENSION-MIB.my
CISCO-IVR-MIB.my
CISCO-VSAN-MIB.my
FC-MGMT-MIB.my
FIBRE-CHANNEL-FE-MIB.my
CISCO-PORT-CHANNEL-MIB.my
FIBRE-CHANNEL-FE-MIB.mib
IF-MIB.my
ENTITY-MIB.my
This page Cisco provides is invaluable for linking OID's to MIBS
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en
You type in the OID and it tells you which mib or mibs it exists in. If you're good with snmptranslate the sky's the limit one what you can tease out of the mibs and monitor via snmp.
