I'm working with someone who has five trunks configured on a MDS 9513, going to multiple switches (two fabrics configured the same). The multiple switches are also all ISL'd to each other, basically a ring/star configuration. All VSANs on the 9513 also exist on all of the other switches, and because of this all port-channels are configured to allow all configured VSANs to pass. He is concerned about traffic taking a longer path to get to it's target (core to edge switch, to edge switch, to target) instead of going from core directly to the target edge switch. I told him I believe NX-OS (6.2(a) in this case), always takes the shortest [available] path. Is this a true statement?

This is way outside my area, but I believe FSPF causes it to take the shortest path.
Search for FSPF at this URL and decide for yourself.
