What is the expected behavior when we lose the mgmt0 on an active supervisor?

Consider this as three test scenarios:

  1. Supervisor module failover/failback. Expected: Management access to be available after a few seconds disruption during the switch over)
  2. Management port connection failure on active supervisor module. Expected: Standby supervisor module to become active so that management access continues to be available after a few seconds disruption).
  3. Active supervisor module failure. Expected: Standby supervisor module automatically takes over with a few seconds disruption)

A lost-connection event did not trigger a switch over. Looking for a clarity on second scenario to declare if the test scenario is passed or failed

Consider this as three test scenarios:

  1. Supervisor module failover/failback. Expected: Management access to be available after a few seconds disruption during the switch over.
  2. Management port connection failure on active supervisor module. Expected: Standby supervisor module will not take over. We won’t be able to access the switch any more. Review via console access to MDS 9000 supervisor will be required.
  3. Active supervisor module failure. Expected: Standby supervisor module automatically takes over with a few seconds disruption.

I am not convinced with the second test scenario on the MDS 9710 as we lose the management connection . I heard that multi chassis Ethernet switches provide redundancy on the second test scenario.

what you guys notice on the dual supervisor modules products?
