When to expect host FLOGI on new uplinks while migrating

Hello,

We are migrating host (UCS) uplinks (NVIP) from one MDS to another MDS (one fabric at a time).

The interfaces (4) are in a port channel.

So we created a new port channel on the new MDS and an additional port channel on the Fabric Interconnect.

Plan is to move each interface one by one to the new port channel so there minimum impact.

Me moved one interface to the new port channel already, but there are no host FLOGIs.

When can we expect the host FLOGIs to move over to the new port channel?

Do we have to force this?

The host itself should perform the FLOGI. On the UCS FI side, you may want to use a SAN pin group to pin Fibre Channel traffic from their vHBAs to the specific uplink (e.g. new port-channel). I can't elaborate on the potential impact, so I strongly recommend you to investigate this from the UCS perspective.

For VMware ESXi, look for VMware KB 2058675. That article contains instructions on how to force an ESXi host to FLOGI without rebooting it.
