As the others have highlighted APSP1 (at least) is required.The SMU applies for 9800-L and 9800-CL if using Guest-Anchor mobility.They are both covered in https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/2...

@andrew.butterworth no, but if you're the original buyer of the AP from Cisco or an authorised partner/reseller then you can RMA using the LLHW https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/warranties/warr-ltd-life-hw.html
