VPN routing with PIXes vs routers

We want to connect our branch offices with VPN using PIXes. What are the ups and downs of using PIXes vs. using regular Cisco routers to do this?

Fail-over routing between two ISP connections?

Our site is currently singled homed on the internet. We're adding another home and would like to automatically fail-over from one ISP's connection to another as needed. What do we need to do to support this?
