A sync speed of 6.6Mb down and 0.9 up? Feels like perhaps it's doing ADSL rather than VDSL. If the line supports ADSL, then by default the 887VA's will do ADSL. You have to explicitly tell it to do VDSL From your text above - I think this bit confirm...
