Turns out it only occurs when there is a NIC on the receiver that is configured to receive datafrom more than one multicast group. This screws up all the other NICs as well. as long as none of the packets are fragmented then everything works. pack...

even though it reported an error it is now working! thanks much.if you have any ideas on my issue with multicast fragmented packets i would really appreciate it.this was an annoyance but the other is killing application performance.

I tried to enable it but it came back with "IGMP Queier functions cannot be operationally enabled on some VLANS becase the required conditions have not been met" how do i enable PIM on the VLAN or what condition am i missing?

I am confused.should the table not be blank to start with and then entries only added when it sees requests from hosts to join the group? I do not need/want a querier to generate requests. only to listen.
