We use a x-over for the failover from one int on the primary ASA to the secondary ASA and it works fine .

When you say virtual interfaces are you talking about sub interfaces?These can each be a different vlan and can be monitored for failover etc...

Yes. In fact it is a good idea to sub all interfaces from the begginning so that you do have to go back and do this later and thus cause downtime on the interface when you sub it out.

Create sub interfaces on the other physical interfaces(you will want to do this eventually anyway) and then just use one of the physical interfaces as the failover.

Please post your ASA config for your Websense config. Also what version of ASA code are you running?Do you have the Websense FAQ for setting up ASA's and PIX firewalls? If not please advise...I do not have an URL but I have the text and can post that...
