I am very proud to announce the official launch of Cisco DevNet, Cisco’s new Developer Program. Our mission is to empower developers to achieve their business and personal goals by providing fast, free, online resources to enable our developer community to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. Our new DevNet portal has been designed to better support our developer community and to enhance how we exhibit our extensive portfolio of technologies. The site is designed to provide developer’s an end-to-end experience that is intuitive to navigate and with content that is much easier to discover. We’ve organized all of Cisco’s technologies into a hierarchical taxonomy focused on three areas: Networking, Data Center, and Collaboration, making the developer's process of finding the information they need to develop with Cisco simpler than ever. While the first phase of DevNet will be focused on making Cisco technologies more accessible to our developer community; future phases in 2014 will focus on providing useful tools such as a fully featured developer sandbox and on-line tutorials. These types of tools will make it easier for our developer community to develop on and integrate with Cisco technologies. While having the development community integrate with Cisco technologies is our primary goal, we also want to utilize DevNet to promote open industry standards. Cisco has been a leader in promoting open standards and we would like to broaden the discussion of open standards with our Developer Community. As an example, you will notice in our industry leadership section of the DevNet portal information on Project OpenDaylight which is “a collaborative project under The Linux Foundation to foster innovation and create an open and transparent approach to Software-Defined Networks”. T oday is the first step in a very long journey of providing a rewarding experience for our Developer Community. We are very excited about the future of DevNet and the possibilities of building this together with you. We would love to know what you think! Regards, Rick Tywoniak DevNet Lead
