Is GMPLS the solution for optical internet, is it going to have problems? Is it better to use a combination of IP and ATM?

Can somebody give some sugestions about what we can wait for ATM technology and standards in future broadband networks? What is going to happened with MPLS, GMPLS, DSL, etc.?
