ordering t1s

hello. Im trying to order 2 t1s for a site. These t1s are WAN links to our data center. In particular, Im trying to understand the gold CAR portion below. can someone explain what that means? and if it means what I think it means, then why is the carrier access rate so low. does this mean we cannot push more than 256kb/s out of this site.

Zeke

Below are a few examples of configurations for T-1 circuits

Please advise what you need for the 2 in jersey.

thanks

Access Speed

Port Speed

Gold CAR

Router Model

T-1

384 Kbps

8 Kbps

C1841

T-1

512 Kbps

8 Kbps

C1841

T-1

1.536 Mbps

256 Kbps

C1841

also, am I correct inmy understanding that the local loop means from the central office to the POP. What is the POP to the actual building termination called? Is it when I order a t1 that they run the wire from the CO to a POP near my office location or how does that work?

This sounds like it might be Verizon's "Private IP" service based on the language you are using.

If you order a full T1 point to point, that can get very expensive.  A Private IP service is a cheaper alternative that uses a T1 to connect a custoemr site to an entry point in a shared, encrypted "Private IP"  VPN cloud.

"T-1" is the signalling technology, available in 64kb increments up to 1.544Mbps.

The "port speed" is the fastest you can go (number of assigned timeslots).  The "Gold CAR" is the always-guaranteed throughput end-to-end for your marked priority traffic (like voice).

The "loop" is the copper from your customer premises equipment (CPE) to the central office (CO).  The POP is probably the entry point from the local CO equipment to the Private IP cloud.

This service is analagous to the old Frame-Relay, with Gold CAR is what Frame-Relay people would have called CIR (Committed Information Rate).

These are all really questions for your Service provider, though.
