Tunnel Dropping

Hello,

I have a VPN established with a 3rd party organization. We have a VPNC 3015, they have a PIX 515E.

They are saying that at least 20 times a day that the people on our side are losing connectivity with the resources on their side.

I checked the tunnel in sessions, and it seems to be up now for 60 hours and counting.

So, the questions:

1. Is it possible that the tunnel stays up, but for some reason packets aren't allowed to come and go?

2. Is there any way to make the tunnel permanent regardless of traffic? For example, even if there's no traffic at all, keep the tunnel alive via keepalives or something.

3. Anybody have any good tools to monitor such a thing?

4. Are there any known issues between the PIX and the VPNC that might be causing the problem.

Thanks,

Dave

As far as my knowledge goes, it is not possible that the tunnel shows up but packets are not allowed throgh and there is no such issue in the compatability of the PIX and VPN concentrator
