Whats the fastest way to get a config file when web gui is unbearably slow on s170?

Hello,

Our S170 is about ready to be put to pasture.  Quite frankly, its stinks.  Its the slowest piece of gear in our entire organization.  It takes a good 30 - 45 minutes just to log into the web GUI.  Right now I just have the Cisco S170 banner and the grey dotted background.  Still spinning.

I thought I could SSH to it and run showconfig.  I did enable Putty to log all printable output to webfilter.log, and then I ran the command and kept the enter button down.

I notice in the log file there's over 660 instances of:

-Press Any Key For More-

So thats easy to find and replace with nothing in Notepad++, but then I'm left with blank lines.

Is it bad to have some blank lines?  I want to save this config to a real xml file and import it into our S300V appliance which runs circles around the junk S170.

Thanks for the info.

I think there is a saveconfig cli command. Then ftp in,and download it from the configuration directory

It took 2 1/2 hours but I finally got it from the web gui.

I had to massage the config anyway.  I had to cut the certs out of the S170 and paste in the certs from the S300V config.

Once impoted and up, check policy trace wasn't able to identify my user.  I had to delete my authentication realm "windows", recreate it with AD info, rejoin the domain and enter the cda information again.

This also ended up disabling our identification policy "Authenticated Users".  So I had to re-enable that and play with those settings until we found the ones that worked.  We devulged from the xml config (the S170 web gui just would NOT catch up and load this screen) that we were set to Kerberos or NTLMSSP.  Once that was fixed and the firewall was updated with the new wccp addresses, we were still getting authentication pop ups.  I realized our Authenticated Users policy was not set to transparently identify.  We made that change and committed it, and now we are back in business.

The virtual web filter is now working and we are seeing traffic hit the reporting.  Best of all, we can actually navigate around the web gui and administer it!

I know the old S170 doesn't say anything is wrong with it, but how unbearably slow its running has me wondering if there isn't some sort of hardware (like a disk) issue.  Anyway glad to be off that dinosaur!
