Access point from Autonomous to Lightweight mode?

Hi, i have a dude about this convertion, if I am not wrong normally the Access Point come with a IOS in mode Autonomous, the procces tha the AP try to join the WLC is automatic? I mean when the AP first boot, it try to find the WLC and do all the join procces or this is configurable?

Thaks for you answer leolaohoo, but I think I didnt´t explain my case well, my dude is about the proccess of how a AP pass from the autonomous to lightweight mode when the AP has a autonomous IOS and it conects to the LAN where is also connect a WLC.
