Need help with WS-UA-SUP8E (Wireless Card for WS-X45-SUP8-E)

Hello,

We have an existing WLC 5508 at our Central Office location catering to Lighweigh AP in Branch Offices over MPLS.

We have recently bought new Cisco 4507R+E switch which will also be installed at Central Office location with WS-UA-SUP8E (Wireless Card for WS-X45-SUP8-E) having WLC functionality as well. We were looking for using this WS-UA-SUP8E as Backup WLC in case WLC 5508 fails.

However, I have been told by one of my friend that this WS-UA-SUP8E cannot be used to cater Lightweight AP over WAN. It can only be used for LAP directly connected to this 4507 switch.

Need your inputs on the same. Many thanks in advance for your support on this.

Regards,

Nitin

Your friend is correct. APs need to be directly connected to the 4507R+E switch (and can't be hanging off another switch).  Sup8 can support up to 100 APs.

I've the same issue and I don't have any copper line card on 4507 with Sup 8e chassis to directly connect an Access Point. 4507 chassis is further connected with 3750x access layer through the fiber uplinks. 1) Can I connect the APs on 3750x in this topology? 2) How many APs I can connect and which IOS is require as I saw software road apwritten in the datasheet of Sup 8e? 3) Do I need additional license to support the APs on 4507 with Sup 8e?
