ACI and NSX-T Intergrate

hi everyone, We are implementing a project and will integrate ACI with VMware NSX. I have a question: when integrating APIC with VMware NSX, is it necessary to first integrate with vCenter so that APIC automatically creates VDS, and then Integrate with NSX Manager?

Hello @PTA90

Yes, when integrating Cisco ACI with VMware NSX, it is necessary to first integrate the APIC with VMware vCenter. This integration allows the APIC to automatically create and manage the VMware vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS), which is a prerequisite for the NSX integration. Here is a high-level overview of the steps involved:

  1. Integrate APIC with VMware vCenter:

    • Log in to the APIC GUI.
    • Navigate to VM Networking > Inventory > VMware vCenter.
    • Click + to add a new vCenter.
    • Provide the necessary details such as the vCenter IP address, credentials, and other required information.
    • Once the integration is complete, the APIC will automatically create the necessary VDS and port groups.
  2. Verify VDS Creation:

    • Ensure that the VDS and port groups have been created in the vCenter by the APIC.
    • Verify that the VDS is properly configured and that the port groups are in place.
  3. Integrate APIC with VMware NSX Manager:

    • After the VDS is set up, proceed to integrate the APIC with the NSX Manager.
    • Navigate to VM Networking > Inventory > VMware NSX.
    • Click + to add a new NSX Manager.
    • Provide the necessary details such as the NSX Manager IP address, credentials, and other required information.
    • Configure the necessary settings to establish communication between the APIC and NSX Manager.
  4. Configure NSX Integration:

    • Define the necessary policies and configurations to ensure that the ACI fabric and NSX environment are properly integrated.
    • This may include configuring logical switches, distributed logical routers, and other NSX components to work with the ACI fabric.

By following these steps, you ensure that the APIC can manage the VDS and that the integration with NSX Manager is successful. The initial integration with vCenter is crucial because it sets up the foundational networking components that NSX will leverage for its operations.

    Happy Configuration!!!
