ACI Remove from Controller vs Decommission

Hi Community,

What is the difference between "remove from controller" and "decommission" in ACI on the fabric membership. Replacing (RMA) a device should be done through "remove from controller" but when the decommission is used? remove from controller resets the device to factory default and removes from the controller but decommission does less?

Hi,

It's hard to find detailed information on this subject.

Form Configure Leaf or Spine Replacement in ACI:
"The Remove from Controller option completely removes the node from the ACI fabric and the serial number is disassociated from the Node ID. The Regular option is used in order to temporarily remove the node from the ACI fabric, with the expectation that the same node rejoins the fabric with the same Node ID in future. For instance, if the node needs to be temporarily powered down for maintenance."

The execution of the "Decommission" and "Remove from Controller" function in the GUI looks different depending on the APIC software version. In version 4.2, these are separate GUI functions in the context menu of the "Registered Nodes" tab.

It is worth noting that the "Remove from Controller" and "Decommission" functions do not affect the configuration of switch profiles and port profiles in APIC.
