FCoE topology

I am referring to Fig 9 of

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/aci/apic/sw/2-x/basic_config/b_APIC_Basic_Config_Guide_2_x/b_APIC_Basic_Config_Guide_2_x_chapter_0100.html#id_21541

Q. Is it possible to connect servers with FCoE on one leaf, storage subsystem on another leaf, therefore moving FCoE traffic across the ACI fabric ?

A. I believe the answer isNo, because there is no communication NPV – NPV possible ? Is this correct ?

This is correct. The host and NPIV/FCF would need to connect to the same leaf.

Thanks Jason !

The documentation in

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/aci/apic/sw/2-x/basic_config/b_APIC_Basic_Config_Guide_2_x/b_APIC_Basic_Config_Guide_2_x_chapter_0100.pdf

is however misleading

One or more ACI leaf switches configured through FC SAN policies to function as an NPV backbone

and then below the clarification

In the above ACI topology,FCoE traffic support requires direct connections between the hosts and Fports and direct connections between the FCF device and NPport.

PS.

Fig 9 refers to X.25 hosts ??? what has X.25 to do with FC ?

Hey Walter - Long time no see!

Don't mind the x.25 icon reference.  I think our docs team wanted a "host" icon, and instead pulled an "X.25 Host" icon by mistake.  Just imaging that's any end host displayed.

Is your concern that we don't specifically call out the requirement for both the hosts & Storage devices to be connected to the same leaf?   If so, we can amend our docs to improve that.
