We have been working to reduce our network footprint in our on premise datacenter. Because of the shrinking data center we have decided to replace our ACI environment with Nexus and FEXs without ACI. All of the existing ACI equipment is on end-of-support gear so migrating as soon as possible is most desired.
We are replacing the spines with nexus 7706 and the leaves with Fex modules. Currently the ACI environment is connected to our core switches over l3 interfaces that run a ip ospf point-2-point to advertise all the bridge domains (Vlans) into ospf so that the ACI nodes can communicate outside that environment as well as reaching the Internet.
I would like to connect the new replacement nexus7706 to the ACI environment so that we can begin to migrate the nodes off the ACI leafs while still routing via OSPF via the layer 3 connection to the core. I am thinking creating a trunk interface on the 7706 but on the ACI side I am not sure:
Currently the new nexus 7706 have all the Bridge Domains configured as Vlans but no layer 3 interfaces configured. The spanning-tree priority is set to 24576 for each of the Vlans. I would like to connect them to the ACI environment and begin migrating the nodes connected to ACI leafs. Eventually I would then connect the new 7706 to the core and begin migrating over the layer 3 interfaces to the 7706 to be advertised into OSPF after removing them from ACI.
I have been reading through some documentation and posts and some say I need to extend the EPG and others say to extend the Bridge Domain. I am not sure which is correct please advise.
