VMM Endpoint can not ping default gateway running under the BD

Looking for suggestions on troubleshooting this issue. 

An endpoint running on VMware DVS (v7.0) port-group which was created by VMM integration with the ACI. ACI assigns dynamic VLAN to the port-group and hosts the default gateway under the EPG associated BD.

The endpoint shows up under the EGP operation tab with the correct host address as well as its virtual mac. But the endpoint just can not ping the default gateway running under the BD. 

For migration reason, the APIC is running v5.2(4f) and switches are running v14.2(7v) currently.

iping from leaf to the endpoint does not work either...I do see the BD interface as "protocol-up/link-up/admin-up" on leaf as well.

Any suggestions?

How does learning source look like under Operations tab? Is it learned and vmm?

Is Access Policy correctly configured?

yes, the access policies are configured properly.
