VXLAN ID (VNID) & VTEP in ACI

It is understood that the end system is assigned to a Local VLAN ID, which in turn gets mapped to a VXLAN ID in the fabric. Likewise the VXLAN ID is associated with the VTEPs.

1. Are the devices to which the VTEPs are assigned are the leaf switches?

2. How is a VXLAN ID allocated to the Switches

3. How does the VTEP take its VTEP ID / IP address.

1. Yes, the leaf switches run the VTEP function / feature / whatever you want to call it

2. It's automatically (I'd say randomly) chosen by the APIC

3. The VTEP IP is automatically (again I'd say randomly) chosen from the pool of infrastructure addresses you have to define when setting up the fabric

Nik
