CSS boot config pointer

Having loaded a new adi image, using ftp,and setting primary boot-file ... command, we find that upon reboot the startup-config is lost. Any ideas what could cause this? Appreciate any help.

yes, the config is stored in the image directory.

Changing the image, the css can't find the old config associated with the other image.

Before upgrading, do 'archive startup-config '

After the upgrade do 'restore '
