CSS weighting parameter.

When I change the weighting on a service, does a higher weight mean that more flows are directed to that service or does a lower weight mean that more flows are directeted to that service?

How long does it take before seeing results of the change?

Hi John,

The higher the weight compared to the other configured weights (!) for the services in the content, the more flows are directed to that service.

My example:

service CHMSIIS06

ip address 172.x9.x9.x8

keepalive port 80

keepalive type tcp

keepalive frequency 30

protocol tcp

weight 9

active

service CHMSIIS07

ip address 172.x9.x9.x9

keepalive port 80

keepalive type tcp

keepalive frequency 30

protocol tcp

weight 10

service CHWSIIS07

ip address 172.x9.x9.x5

keepalive port 80

keepalive type tcp

keepalive frequency 30

protocol tcp

weight 9

active

active

content cms-production

vip address 172.x9.x9.x2

protocol tcp

port 80

add service CHMSIIS07

add service CHWSIIS07

balance weightedrr

add service CHMSIIS06

active

CSS11506# sh service summary

Service Name State Conn Weight Avg State

Load Transitions

CHMSIIS06 Alive 18 9 4 88

CHMSIIS07 Alive 15 10 2 102

CHWSIIS07 Alive 8 9 4 96

How long does it takes? Immediately it starts to follow that weights but keep in mind, depends the behavior of your application, it will take shorter or longer.

Best regards,
