Hi, Could someone shed some light on how this is possible and what would it entail. I am just curious on how video is being delivered over ip to homes. Say for example a solution which would allow live content to be sent to homes or even pre-recorded content. What are the requirements? How to get past issues such as how much bandwidth is required etc. Thank you for your help.

Since it is farly easy to send most anything over IP the real problem is in what do you use to generate the video in the first place.
For Cisco-centric solutions (the best there are of course) I would recommend that you start here http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/video/index.html
Here is another link that may be of interest regarding live video streaming.
Required bandwidth will be a misture of what type of video, how many end-points involved and the clarity needed.
This should be enough to get you started though.
Hope this helps
