GSLB clarifications

Hi,

I would like some clarifications on GSLB.

If we have Data Center1 (DC1) and Data Center2 (DC2) and a back end connection exists between DC1 and DC2.

GSLB allows a user to be connected to DC1 or DC2 based on the availability of the servers and load balancing rules. In short, the traffic will be user -> DC1 or user -> DC2. The CSM responds to a DNS request.

However, if we don't mind an extra hop (user -> DC1 or user -> DC1 -> DC2) and if we have enough bandwidth, it is possible to get the same results with a combination (when possible) of the following:

1) the same VIP in DC1 and DC2 and RHI

2) a vserver with two serverfarms. The first serverfarm has the VIP of DC1. The second server farm has the VIP of DC2

3) backup serverfarm. The serverfarm in DC2 is the backup of the serverfarm in DC1.

Is it correct?

Thanks,

Pascal

Pascal,

this is correct.

Just don't forget the CSM should see the return traffic, is if traffic coming into DC1 is forwarded to DC2, you need to do client nat to guarantee that the response from DC2 goes back to DC1 and then to the client.

Regards,

Gilles.

HI,

in case the scnenario user -> DC1 ->DC2 is deployed wouldn't it be better to configure direct server return as this would safe latency and unnecessary traffic on the DC1-DC2 link?

Kind Regards,

Joerg
