GSS to DNS Server communication

Hello, I am wondering if you can assist with regard to communication we would like to establish between our GSS and DNS servers. I understand there is a requirement to enable through firewalls TCP and UDP port 53 bidirectional. What is the requirement to allow UDP outbound from GSS to external DNS Server. And what is TCP port 53 used for?

Hi,

a general hint when to use UDP or TCP for DNS is given in RFC1035 (see http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1035.html) Chapter 4.2give you a good sample of what protocol should be used for what purpose.
