Hi Mostafa,

What is the ACE model here and why do you need to know processor ID for upgrade?

Regards,

Kanwal

hi Kanwal ,

ACE Model :  ACE-4710-K9 appliance ,

I need to check the processor _ ID Value good to upgrade to A5 or not .

Thanks & BR
Ahmed Mostafa

Hi Ahmed,

You can upgrade directly to ACE A5 Train if it is ACE 4710. Why do you need to see processor_ID value? I just looked at release notes and i don't see any restriction listed unless i missed something which you have found in some documentation. Can you please share why do you need to see the processor_ID?

Regards,

Kanwal

I have recived the below Mail from Cisco TAC

I have found that the box may have been hit by the CSCtb07092 which was pointed by the previous engineer and the CSCtb37322.

The very last defect mentioned above is fixed on the A3(2.5), even though Cisco recommends to run the latest versions.

If you want to upgrade to the latest version which is the A5, you will need to run a compatibility test prior the upgrade.

In order to run the test, you will need to type the following commands:

  • •1-   From the admin context, issue  "telnet softnp" and login as  root/admin
  • •2-   Once there you will need to run the cat /proc/octeon_info | grep processor_id

Example:

ANS-ACE4710/Admin# telnet softnp

Trying 127.3.0.20...

Connected to 127.3.0.20.

Escape character is '^]'.

Linux 2.6.21.7-Cavium-Octeon ((none)) (0)

(none) login: root

Password:

Last login: Sun Jan  5 19:48:22 2014 from 127.3.0.10 on pts/0

scimitar-dp:/ 7 $ cat /proc/octeon_info | grep processor_id

processor_id:        0xd0003

If the received value is 0xd0003  (its a Pass3 Octeon,  good for 5x)

If the receive value is 0xd0001  (it's a Pass2 Octeon,  not good for 5x)

If the receive value is 0xd0000   (it's  a Pass1 Octeon, not good for 5x)

Please apply the suggested upgrade and let me know the outcome.

I have down time now and need your support , and I need to run a compatibility test prior the upgrade

Hi Ahmed,

Alright. We have seen that this command doesn't work sometime. You will need to contact TAC here and they will help you with the same by entering debug shell. Sorry cannot be of help here.

Kanwal
