Is DNS required on CE configured in Proxy mode

Hi,

If a content engine is configured for both incoming and outgoing proxy, why does it need to do DNS lookups prior to forwarding packets to the outgoing proxy?

From traces taken, this can add 1 to 2 seconds of delay to the web page being displayed.

Is there a way to turn this off?

Thanks.

DNS is required for the browser to do a lookup of the IP address of site the users are trying to access.

Hi,

In this case, the browser has a proxy configured pointing at the CE, so the browser shouldn't need to do a DNS lookup. Once the request hits the CE, it too has an outgoing proxy configured so it shouldn't have to do a DNS lookup either ... but it does? I cannot see what use the DNS lookup serves as the CE is not going to contact the origin server directly. The downside of doing the lookup is that it adds delay to the initial request.

Thanks

Eddie
