Session info doesn't sync in CSM( Each chassis)

I have Two CSM(slot#4, slot#7) in two chassises each.

If i put 'show mod csm 7 stats' on standby chassis for CSM, it does't seems to be sync in session.

The reason for that, I think, is physical port assigned for ft group vlan.

Cisco recommanded that it is good to have seperate trunk port for ft group vlan in CSM.

But i think session info passes through the seperate ft group port.

If I assign a physical port for ft group vlan 1001, the session sync happen?

The config is the following.

Active

ft group 10 vlan 1000

priority 150

failover 5

ft group 20 vlan 1001

priority 150

failover 5

Backup

ft group 10 vlan 1000

priority 50

failover 5

ft group 20 vlan 1001

priority 50

failover 5

show vlan

Active/ Backup

1000 ft_vlan active Gi3/14

1001 CSM7_FT active (not assigned)

But ft vlan 1001 goes through trunk port between two chassises.

could you please clarify what you mean by session in synch ? What counter are you looking at exactly and what do you expect to see ?

Also, did you try to configure 2 FT groups on the same CSM ?

This is not possible.

You can have only 1 FT group.

Use the command 'sho mod csm X vlan' to see which vlan is the ft vlan.

Regards,

Gilles.

Hi..Gilles

Thank you for replying my question.

i think i have difficulty in explaining the problem.

There are two Catalyst 6509 and are two CSM(slot#4, #7) for each Cat6509.

i configured 2 ft groups for two CSM.

Active Standby

slot#4 ------------ slot#4 CSM

slot#7 ------------ slot#7 CSM

ft group vlan for slot#4 is ft 1000 vlan

ft group vlan for slot#7 is ft 1001 vlan

The difference is that ft 1000 has assigned port(interface gi 3/14), but ft 1001 has no assigned port(it uses trunk port0

When i put show mod csm 4 stats , i see the same current session count. But for csm 7, i see the current session count only in Active csm 7.

Configurations for each CSM pair(two pairs) are the same except two vservsers.

---------------------------------------------------

Active_Cat6509#sh mod csm 4 stats

Connections Created: 8842964203

Connections Destroyed: 8842366727

Connections Current: 597476 ===> match most

Connections Timed-Out: 0

Backup_Cat6509#sh mod csm 4 statas

Connections Created: 6589655133

Connections Destroyed: 6589072835

Connections Current: 582298 ===> match most

Connections Timed-Out: 0

Active_Cat6509#sh mod csm 7 stats

Connections Created: 77648829

Connections Destroyed: 77455860

Connections Current: 192969 ===> doesn't match

Connections Timed-Out: 0

Backup_Cat6509#sh mod csm 7 stats

Connections Created: 7174243126

Connections Destroyed: 7174241899

Connections Current: 1227 ===> doesn't match

Connections Timed-Out: 0

i hope you understand my explanations.

Best Regards

Thank you.

Hi,

Regarding the ft group 10. Is this FT-group working proerply between the corresponding CSMs?

What sort of information are you replicating (connections, stickiness?).

In case of connections, is no connection replicated or only some. If some is the case please verify that the other session are lasting for more than some seconds (>2) because if they are shorter they won't get replicated. I got this information from a TAC-Engineer as I had the problem that not all session got replicated. Please verify the session replication with a HTTP1.1 (keepalive on so that it lasts for some time) or a ftp flow a in case of a layer3 rule just with a telnet connect to your sever.

The next question: Why do you need 2 ft groups for one CSM-pair? In my opinion one CSM only supports one ft group.

In regards of vlans and the needed capacity. I run several CSMs where the ft-vlan is part of a trunk between the two Cat6ks. I have a total bandwidth of 2 GIG as there are some vlans on this trunk but it still works if I use only 1GIG (recommend in the following link http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_installation_and_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00801c58a8.html)

Kind Regards,

Joerg

Hi. Joerg

Yes, Ft group 10 is working properly.

The thing is ft group 20.

Ft group 20 is CSM pair for slot #7 each chassises.

Ft group 20 does't share or sync the current session counts.

I can tell when i put 'show mod csm 7 stats',

i see that current count does't match in CSM pair.

The configuration of CSM pair is the same except 2 vservers.

And the needed capacity is not issue in here. annway.

Best Regards

Thank you.

HI,

could you please post the configuration of both CSMs. Could you also post a sh vlan of both Cat6ks and a sh trunk of the connection link between the the two cat6ks?

Kind Regards,

Joerg

i attachedd requested files..

Thank you for helping me!!

Hello,

it looks like on CSM 4 you replicate connections for every vserver.

However, for CSM slot 7, you only replicate connections for the first 3 vservers.

The active CSM will count the connections on all vservers while the backup will only count the connection of the first three.

This is most probably where lies the difference.

Capture a 'sho mod csm 7 vserver' on active and backup and check the number of connections per vserver.

Regards,

Gilles.

HI,

seems as if my last posting got lost. So here we go again: First of all everything seems fine as we see replicated connections. If you want to check if replication works just setup a connection to a vserver (where replication is configured) and verify that the flow is replicated with sho mod csm 7 conns vsersver xyz. Second make sure that the flow lasts for longer than 3 seconds.

I think you will see the replicated flow. this will proove that everything is okay. If you miss a flow in the replication make sure it hits the correct vserver with replication and that the flow lasts for more than 3 seconds.

Kind Regards,

JOerg
