Upgrading to ACE from CSS - Throughput

Any advice greatly appreciated.

We’re looking into replacing our aging CSS load balancers with ACE’s. The main difference that I have noted is the throughput. We can buy the unit with options of the following configurations: 0.5, 1, 2, or 4 Gbps throughput.

I presume this is aggregated interface throughput – if I monitor the interface throughput on the CSS, I’ll get more of an idea of what I’ll need on the ACE?

Thanks,

Craig.

Hello Craig,

You can take a look of this link:

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Cisco_Application_Control_Engine_%28ACE%29_Troubleshooting_Guide_--_ACE_Resource_Limits

It may depend on your requirements which throughput you will require then It will be good if you discuss this with your Cisco SE or Cisco Partner, which can help you with the migration process and recommendations based on your specific scenario.

ACE has more resources and features than the CSS and also something good is that if you need more throughput eventually, you can get a license which will give you more throughput and so on as you can see here:

Hope this helps.

Jorge
