Which switch?

We are in the design stage for a new website.

Currently the plan is for 3 web servers and 2 back end content management and registration databases running SQL 2000 (MS).

We are looking at either two 11501 (for tollerance) to load ballance across the web servers or if we can use a CSM 11506 to duplicate writes to two database servers (instead of an MS cluster) an 11506 with two SCM's connected to a pair of Catalyst switches.

The website will have an average of 3M throughput rising to 18M peak.

The reason for a 11506 is that the same infrastructure may well have to support an Extranet in the near future which will make heavy use of SSL.

What additional information is needed for anyone to offer any advice on the choice of switch.

Thanks

definitely I would go for the 11500 and not the 11150 or 11050 or 11800.

Better performance and more possibility on the 11500.

A few remarks however.

The 11501 has a fixed chassis. So, you have no choice about interfaces module. Also, if you want a SSL module, you have to order it now with the 11501.

The 11503 and 11506 hace configurable chassis and you can order the SSL module.

another good choice would be the CSM with the SSL module for the catalyst 6500. Especially good choice if you already have cat6500 deployed.
