Hi Guys

I am new to ASA firewalls and need some help please

I was asked to install an asa 5505 firewall for our local community centre (some database they need protecting).

So off I went on to the internet and sources a ASA 5505 of a company.

The shiny box arrived and I hooked it on to the network outside facing (public)

And on consoling into the box noticed many features disabled  for the firewall. And I was then told I need to get an activation key (funny the traders don't tell you that).

Please can some explain where I can get an activation key from, how much does it cost and how long will this take.

And is there something else I need as well to get this box online and the related costs.

Really appreciate your help

Taaj

Hi Taaj ,

It depends of which feature you want enable on your ASA , VPN features ,maximum users , maxium vlans , etc.  You can confirm the ASA licenses with the command "Show activation-key".

Check below for more information:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/security/asa-5500-series-next-generation-firewalls/data_sheet_c78-701253.html

PD: Next time post this type of queries as a Discussion.

Hope it helps

Go to cisco license page, check your ASA and then put PAK number for requesting activation license.

if you didn't have PAK number, you can request demo / evaluation activation key.

check this out : Cisco License
