Is there a way to disable the automatic registering of the IM protocol? My client really wants to use the CiscoJabber client in a Windows environment, but without the IM protocol being registered every time the client runs.

From the IM & Presence server, you can enable or disable the IM service.
Uncheck Enable instant messaging.
Please refer to the document for more details

Thanks for the info; it sounds promising, and will need some testing.
If this implies that the server notifies the client that it should not locally register the HKCR:IM protocol, then our client’s problem may be solved.

If you are looking for the control from the the local system to enable/disable the call handler protocol, you can refer to the document for the windows registry entries.

That is correct that those are the registry keys that CiscoJabber sets for the IM protocol. However, the problem remains that the CiscoJabber program updates the registry every time it starts, whether or not the IM service was enabled by the server. For the present, we'll have to provide our client with a different solution.
