How to move in Catalyst Center one switch from one container to anothe

I have Catalyst Center 2.3.7.6 and I´m struggling because in many cases I can´t move switches from one location to another, what I have done as a workaround, it´s this, delete the device from Catalys Center then rescan it and move it to the new location.
Do any one knows a better way to do it? and Why I can´t do this movement directly?
Thx!

Hi Ernesto,

Typically, this happens due to the method of onboarding the device to a site after onboarding through Discovery. There are two ways this is done:

1. Assign device to site -- This option allows you to assign a device to a particular site but it is soft-coded.

2. Provision -- This option allows you to provision a device to a particular site but it is hard-coded.

What does this mean? If you assign a device to a site, you can later move the device from one site to another without much effort or issue.

If you provision a device to a site, you are telling Catalyst Center that this device will not move and this device now becomes hard-coded for that site. The device cannot be moved to a different site after provisioning and the only way to move it is by deleting and re-adding the device. The only exception to this rule is APs which can be swapped between sites regardless of how many times they were provisioned.

This is done because provisioning adds static information that is used for the network intent and often times to prelude adding the device into a SDA fabric. As that information cannot change easily in the databases, a provisioned device is locked down to prevent a corruption of data by switching sites.

With all of that said, the developers are looking into trying to allow site re-assignment for provisioned devices but it's still deep into the development/research phase.
