3850 switch License issue after Smart licensing feature enable

I have upgraded the Cisco 3850 switch from an IP Base license to an IP Services license, followed by an IOS upgrade from version 03.07.04.E to 16.12.7. Now, I see the Smart Licensing Status: UNREGISTERED/EVAL mode, whereas my old production switch running 16.12.7 shows Smart Licensing Status: UNREGISTERED/EVAL expired.

What should be the next step?

  1. Should I keep the new switches as they are and add them to the stack? what will happen once eval period expired ? all switches will behave same ? which features will be disabled ?
  2. Should I enable Smart Licensing on the new switch, register it with the Cisco portal, and upgrade the license? In this case, the new spare switch will have a permanent license while the old switch will remain on an expired license.
  3. Should I enable Smart Licensing on all switches, including both production and spare ones, register them with the Cisco portal, and upgrade to a permanent license?"
