BGP configuration multihop

When configuring BGP Multihop. How do I know how many hops the router I want to form a relationship is? In easy examples, I have seen routers 2 or 3 hops away and that's pretty easy but in real life, where you have no idea how many hops the router you want to form adjacency is, how can I know that?

Use traceroute and check how many hops inbetween' after you know hops use ebgp multihop (number you get from traceroute).

Use the `traceroute`command from your router to the remote router's IP address. This command will show you the path the packets take, including the number of hops. However, keep in mind that this method may not always reveal the exact BGP path.

You can use the `ping` command to ping the remote router's IP address. The Time-to-Live (TTL) field in the ICMP packet response will show you how many hops it took to reach the destination. By sending a series of pings and increasing the TTL value, you can estimate the number of hops.
