Hi guys,
It's the first time for me to commit upgrade on cisco router 8200. it's running by 17.6.6a. and I wanna change it to 17.12.4.
Rommon ver is 17.6(8.1r). seems like it's recommended version that Cisco guarantees.
And the router is in install mode. is it totally same procedure as any other cisco switch when I upgrade the IOS? or any other guide line for router product?

IOS upgrade command was totally same as other catalyst switch series.

Please read: Cisco ISR & ASR 1k Routers: IOS-XE/Firmware Upgrade (Install Mode)
Be aware that Cisco has released a re-build, 17.12.4a, last week (18 December 2024). Making a re-build available is very time consuming (think: Expenses) and will only happen if something is definitely (if not catastrophically) wrong with main build.

Hi Guys,
Hope all is well.
I do apologize for the following question(s):
I am a Cisco Network Engineer for 25 years now to date. I am based in South Africa. I am unemployed for a few years. For me it is not-going-good. Don't ask...
Should you be so kind to share job opportunities, please let me know
Okay, so...
SUBJECT:
CISCO PACKET TRACER VERSION 9.0.0 BETA
Cisco Router: PT8200
- Why does these 8200 boots into ROMMON? Is it a "normal
- When I do commit boot command, it does continue with the boot-up-process.
- Device boot correctly from flash:
Note: Once the 8200 is up-and-running: I have to set a few commands to ensure that the 8200 boot-system configuration is configured as well as the config-register values.
- I also noticed that the 8200-install round-about 24 packages. (Note: The device is CISCO PACKET TRACER VERSION 9.0.0 BETA PLATFORM)
Reason for the Question: ""In the real-world""
Do you Guys perhaps know why Cisco 8200 boot-up into ROMMON first.
I do apologize, I am not well with sharing questions
Thanks
3rik.

There are two ways to answer this question:
1. The "Cisco" way, which is "by the book"
2. What actually happens in the wild and how we actually troubleshoot the issue.
Since this is a PacketTracer question, which answer are you looking for?

Hello Leo,
Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate your time and guidance.
I did investigate a few options regarding Cisco's Packet Tracer BETA Version 9.0.0. Cisco's Packet Tracer BETA Version 9.0.0 versus "real-world" experience does have a different outcome and results. My opinion, Cisco Packet Tracer is only simulation of the Cisco Packet Tracer environment within Cisco's Packet Tracer BETA Version 9.0.0 configuration(s).
Simulation does allow the individual to experience the Cisco Networking World. The simulation versus the real-world does have different outcomes and / or expected results.
The following is based on the *Cisco Packet Tracer Version 9.0.0 BETA*
*Solution 1*
- Cisco Packet Tracer will boot into ROMMON-mode
- Enter the command: *boot*
- The boot process will accept the default boot parameters. PKG files will be extracted and loaded. Once all the PKG files extracted and loaded, the PT8200 will be "normal-operational-mode".
- * Note: * Copy running configuration to startup configuration does NOT solve the ROMMON issue. When the PT8200 is reloaded, the PT8200 Router will boot into ROMMON-mode again.
- *Solution*
Enter the command: *confreg 0x2102* in ROMMON-mode
Enter the command: *boot*
The PT8200 Router will boot "normal-operational-mode". The configuration will be set to 0x2102 and the PT8200 will boot perfectly into "normal-operational-mode".
*Summary*
boot
enable
reload
confreg 0x2102
boot
copy run to start (write configuration)
reload
Cisco Packet Tracer Version 9.0.0 BETA PT8200 Router will boot up normally (normal-operation-mode).
Hope this does make sense and meaning. Please correct me should I be not correct.
Thank you,
3rik
