Getting rid of an old module interface listing on a Catalyst 3750

Hello everyone,

We bought some refurbished Catalyst 3750, and in one of them when you issue #show interface description, it shows 24 ports normally, but also shows another 24 Fastethernet ports.

the IOS image is c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE11.bin and the model is WS-C3750X-24T-L

We would like to get rid of those nonexistent 24 ports of the list, is it possible? Also, how that listing happens ?

Thanks for reading.

Cheers.

So, yes, 1/0/x and 2/0/x means switch was part of stack, aka stack-wise.  Try delete starting-up configuration file (start-up text) file from flash first and reboot.  Do not delete .bin file which is switch OS.  If that does not help, you must go into "Mode" switch mode (sort of bios of a switch), aka ROMMON on routers, and change switch number to 1.  To get into Mode switch state, press and hold Mode button and power on switch. Someone has posted steps of removing switch from stack configuration some time ago; you can also find steps in switch documentation.

my guess is you seeing ports of "stack switch".  Show us partial output of show interface description (sample of existing and nonexistent 24 ports) please

Thanks for taking the time to answer @Martin , not sure if this is what you wanted me to post:

Hello @Martin L,

what a detailed step-by-step solution, thank you very much!, just had to do the first part, deleting the startup config file, the list now only shows the interface range Gi2/0/1-24

Thanks again

Yr welcome. You can still change Gi2 to Gi1 in Gi2/0/1-24, if that bothers you.   Just go to  "Mode" switch mode and look for settings that say this switch is #2. Change that number to 1.   There might be more detailed steps by steps listed somewhere in here or Cisco docs.
