IOS 12.2(58)SE

I have two catalyst 3750x switches in a stack.  They are running 12.2(58)SE.  I have a third 3750x I want to add to the stack.  It is running running 12.2(55)SE.  I tried to download 12.2(58)SE from the CISCO site but it wasn't listed.  Only 12.2(55)SE was available for download. Is there a reason I can't find 58?  Should I downgrade the stack to 55?

Maybe because 12.2(58)SE train is one of the buggiest train for 2960/3560/3750 switches to run on.  I would never  recommend this specific train to anyone.

Unless there is a specific feature in 12.2(58)SE train that is an operational requirement (I doubt it), the latest IOS 12.2(55)SE12 is deemed to be the most stable train suitable for 2960/3560/3750 switches to use.

NOTE:  Alternatively, another stable train is 15.0(2)SE.

If the switch/stack is running purely layer 2 functionality, then 12.2(55)SE or 15.0(2)SE are highly suitable &/or stable trains.

IMPORTANT:

  • Be sure to read the Release Notes carefully.
  • If upgrading from 12.2(58)SE to 15.0(2)SE train, I want to warn anyone (because this is not documented anywhere in the Release Notes), that there will be a one-off micro-code upgrade.  This process will take up to 45 minutes to complete.  Once the micro-code upgrade is complete, any future reboots will take between 4.5 to 7 minutes.

I have included the output of the stack, both switches are WS-C3750X-24T-S, the new switch is not hooked up right now for me to get the output, I'll have to get it later.  It is a WS-C3750X-48P-S

Hello,

great post. However, the question 'should I downgrade to 12.2(55) from 12.2(58) before upgrading to 15.0.2? remains unanswered.

We have the same issue, all of our switches are running 12.2(58)SE2 and we want to upgrade to 15.2.4. According to the release notes the minimum ios-version supported for the upgrade is 12.2(53)SE2. Should we downgrade before upgrading, or has anyone any experience upgrading from 12.2(58) directly to the 15.2-run? The previous post says "If upgrading from 12.2(58)SE to 15.0(2)SE train, I want to warn anyone (because this is not documented anywhere in the Release Notes), that there will be a one-off micro-code upgrade.  This process will take up to 45 minutes to complete.  Once the micro-code upgrade is complete, any future reboots will take between 4.5 to 7 minutes".  Can this be avoided if we downgrade before the upgrade to 15.x?

Our license level is ipbase, so license should not be an issue.

Direct upgrade is supported.
Don't worry about the microcode. It is only done once. Any future reboot (on the same IOS version) won't require a microcode upgrade.

Does anyone know if I can upgrade a 3560e to 15.0.2 ios also? I cannot find 3560E in the software download section.  Closest I can find is 3560-12PC-S and -8PC-S.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

3560E is already end-of-support.
