The superview feature is not available in the various router models.

I'm experimenting with views and superviews for access control to router features. I'm using Packet Tracer 8.2.0.0162. I started with the 1941 router model that comes with Packet Tracer out of the box. I was able to create and configure several views which seem to work fine. However, when I try to create a superview I get the following error:

R1>enable view root
Password:
R1#%PARSER-6-VIEW_SWITCH: successfully set to view 'root'.

R1#configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
R1(config)#parser view ORDINARY-VIEW superview
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

If I replace the word "superview" with "?" I'm told that the only allowed input at that point is <cr>. It appears that the 1941 model in Packet Tracer does not support the superview feature. However, the IOS version reported is:

R1#show version
Cisco IOS Software, C1900 Software (C1900-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.1(4)M4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Based on what I see on this page, it looks like superviews are a part of IOS version 12.2(33). So, my question is, essentially, why doesn't this work? I tried other router models, including the one for the ISR4331 with the same results. Could it be that the virtual IOS images used by Packet Tracer have this feature disabled? If so, is there a way to update/upgrade those images so that the feature can be used? Or am I just missing something basic?

Thanks!
Peter

Yes there is some limitation of PKT
use GNS instead.

I can confirm, based on my conversations with some people at Cisco, that Packet Tracer implements a "simplified" model of IOS, and is not meant to be a perfect simulation. The recommendation was to always check Packet Tracer against real devices in cases where there are questions like this. In fact, my commands to create a superview do indeed work as expected on a real test device I have in my lab.

I have not used GNS before, but I know of it, and it has been on my todo list to look into it. I will raise the priority of doing so.

Thanks!

Yes try GNS3 for superveiw feature.
