Unity - voicemail to email

We have a user that voicemail (vm) is not being sent correctly to email. It is delayed when user does receive it however it is not going to inbox, instead it is going to archive folder. I am working with the AD/Exchange team on the issue and they have ticket open with Microsoft. Microsoft has asked AD/Exchange team the following question. I'm thinking the answer is strictly EWS and NOT using API in Call Manager. Would this be a correct assessment?

"EWS cloud service account is it using API calls in Cisco Call Manger with the help of the service account to access the mail resources or is this all strictly EWS pulling the info?"
