Workflows Evolution FAQ

Q: What is changing with Workflows?

A: To enhance customer experience and deliver added value through automation in Meraki Dashboard, we are implementing two significant changes.

  1. First, we are adjusting our technology stack based on user feedback to support a better low/no code experience and to include AI for more simplified operations
  2. Second, Workflows will be integrated into the Meraki Dashboard for a more native automation experience, and we will retire workflows.networking.cisco.com (announcement will be coming)

Q: What will customers see/experience?

A: The biggest change will be with how you access Workflows.  Workflows will be natively exposed within the Meraki Dashboard instead of through the existing workflows URL https://workflows.networking.cisco.com/.

Q: When will this change take place?

A: The migration is already underway.  The new Workflows environment inside of the Meraki Dashboard will be turned on for select customers involved in the early adopter trials in June 2025.  You can sign up for access to the new environment here: http://cs.co/WorkflowsEarlyAccess

Q: When will the new Workflows environment inside of the Meraki Dashboard be available?

A: Workflows will be in early preview (beta) for select customers in June 2025 with General Availability (GA) in 2HCY25.

Q: How long will access to the old Workflows environment workflows.networking.cisco.com be available?

A: The old Workflows environment is targeted to be EOL in July 2025.

Q: Do I have to be a Meraki customer to use Workflows?

A: You DO NOT need to be a current Meraki customer to use Workflows. Even if you don’t have any Meraki devices, you can self-create a Meraki account without any devices or licensing and access Workflows to begin automating across Cisco Networking. You can create a new Meraki account at:  account.meraki.com/login/new_account

Q: Will I still be able to create workflows that connect to other systems?

A: Yes. With Workflows, you will still be able to create automations that connect and orchestrate tasks with external systems, such as Catalyst Center, Catalyst SDWAN, Cisco ISE, ServiceNow, etc.

Q: Will I be able to create my own integrations to external systems?

A: Yes, like what is available in Workflows today, you will be able to connect to any external API and create automations that interact with those systems.  Plus, there will be additional new target types that many customers have been requesting, like Git.

Q: Is there an automated migration path from Workflows today to the new Workflows user experience?

A: There is no automated migration path between the two systems available or planned due to the change in the underlying automation engine.  However, the basic functionality remains the same, and users will be able to easily re-create existing automations in the new environment by following the same workflow logic as before.

Q: Will the licensing model change?

A: Yes. Currently Workflows as a standalone product has a different pricing model. Moving forward, Workflows will be freely available as a value add, without limits, within the Meraki dashboard.

Q: With Workflows I used to be able to select the region my data would be stored in. How does that work with Workflows inside of the Meraki Dashboard?

A: When a user creates a Meraki Organization, they are presented with an option to select the region where that Organization's data is hosted. For customers with globally dispersed networks, separate organizations should be created for each data storage, or hosting region (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, China, Canada and India). The hosting region for an organization can be found at the bottom of Meraki dashboard pages when a user is signed in. Workflows data is hosted in the same region as the Organization’s Meraki Data.

Note: Organizations cannot be migrated between regions once created.

Q: Where can I learn more about the new Workflows environment?

A: Until the training material for the new Workflows environment is released, you can leverage the XDR Automations training material since the underlying automation engine is the same.  There are several options to choose from:

  • Cisco Dev Net - Cisco XDR Automation Labs
  • XDR Automate Documentation
  • XDR Training Center
  • Automations Overview Course
  • Configuring Automations Course
