I'm having issues with continuity in the DevNet Fundamentals course.
Issue #1 : In the Step 7 of the Windows Learning Lab, when installing Docker, the course references "Docker CE for Windows". I find no such entity at the web site. I eventually found Docker Engine for Windows, and that seemed to work.
Issue 2: Ubuntu VM - The steps for Setting up a Linux-based Virtual Machine on Windows do not seem to jibe with the associated Learning Lab for Ubuntu.
First, I had to select different disk parameters, as my C drive was incompatible with Hyper-V, as the default drive is set up to use compression. I'm familiar with VMware, but not necessarily fluent with Hyoer-V. Second, once I was able to configure and start the Ubuntu VM, I was presented with an Xwindows screen. There were a number of options, and none of them seemed to be documented in the Learning Lab.I logged in using the credential I had created, and waited several minutes. It eventually responded with:
I
I have absolutely no idea how to fix this. The GUI (KDE/Gnome/whatever) does not come up. While I'm a pretty good network engineer, I'm not yet familiar enough with some of these tools yet.
In general, my issue with these courses is that you typically show WHAT to do, why you don't explain WHY, and you definitely don;t dwell on troubleshooting problems. I cannot stress that understanding why all of these tools are needed, how they are used, and how they depend upon one another is key to mastering this type of material. While I understand that the course was written months ago, when 18.0.4 was evidentally the Ubuntu version of choice, the version offered now in 18.04.3, and even though there is a disclaimer:
Note: The instructions in this lab were designed and tested on a clean build of Ubuntu Desktop 18.0.4. If you are working from a different version of Ubuntu, or have other applications installed on your workstation the exact experience and messages seen may differ. It is always suggested to refer to the official installation and configuration guides for the software applications for any questions or clarifications.
this is a course I and others paid for, and such a disclaimer is completely lame, and frankly unacceptable. I would expect such amatuerishness in a YouTube video, but not in something for which I paid Cisco actual money.

Hi,
I've just started the Fundamentals course and setting up the developer environment was a frustrating experience to say the least. I have had multiple issues with some of the instructions being incorrect. I've finally got the windows and ubuntu environment running thanks to some exhaustive Googling as I'm not a sys admin any sort of linux guru.
You may have already tried this but have you disabled your firewall and proxy server if you have one. Mine only worked if I did this on my Corporate machine.
Good luck
