alternatives to local admin/user accounts

I am looking for alternatives to managing local accounts on the IronPorts for management, administration, etc.

Has anyone used or are currently using TACACS+?
How well do you think this would work for IronPort appliance management.

We use TACACS+ extensively at work for all our network devices. The auth mechanism is krb 5.

We don't use it for Ironport, so I can't comment on that, specifically, but TACACS+ itself works great.
