Cisco Ironport AntiSpam license expire

All,

I would like to know what will be the impact once the ironport antispam license expire? I got answer from support i will not get any protection on antispam anymore but i want to confirm what kind of "protection" i am losing here. Will the Antispam service still working but i have not entitled to have the antispam service pattern file update or the antispam service will not working at all?
