Cluster and machine mode settings

My question is certificate specific, but can be viewed as a general question.

I have 2 machines in a cluster. Can I create at machine mode a certificate with the name MY_CERT on both machines and not creating this MY_CERT at cluster level. And can I use this certificate MY_CERT at cluster level in a Listener?

I only have a production environment at my disposal, so I'm quite hesitant to play around with settings.

Yes. This is how you do it if you aren't using a SAN cert or wildcard cert.

I changed our production setup last night with success. You can have entries on machine level which don't exist at cluster level and still refer to them on cluster level. But you must define them at all machines in the cluster.
