Creating Listeners

Hi,

This is Pinaki. I am using Ironport C160 Email Security Appliance where Incoming mail is already configured and mails are coming properly using Data1 interface on port 25. I want to configure outgoing mail in the same setup. Please let me know if I use the same listener and port for outgoing mail too or if I use the same interface (Data1) but different Listener on different port then which one will be the best practice and what is the difference  between single listener and multiple listener configuring outgoing mail?

Regards,

Pinaki

You can use the same listener - don't let the listener name fool you - this should be considered "bi-directional".  You'll just need to setup and configure a Mail Flow Policy to have a connection behavior of Relay, in order to deem that traffic as Outbound.  But - it can all operate w/ the same listener you already have configured.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your reply. But please tell me specifically is there any difference creating separate listener for incoming and outgoing mail or in same Listener? Which is the best practice?

Regards,

Pinaki

To me - I don't have a best practice solution to offer.  It will come down to what your environment is like: appliance size, users, average mail flow, etc.  It will also depending on how much control and inbound vs. outbound management you wish to have on the environment.  As soon as you create the separate listener, you will have to assure that you administer the HAT/RAT and other variables of the configuration in order to best suit your company.

Thank you for your reply. will let you know once the activity will be done.

Pinaki.

You are welcome.  Happy to help.  If that answers, and there is nothing further - please be sure to mark the thread as answered, or let us know if there is a continued issue/question.
